John KrasinskiJohn Krasinski is the actor who portrays Jim Halpert on the NBC show, The Office. The 30-year old is originally from Boston, who studied theater at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Besides his famous acting role, John Krasinski is both a writer and director. Krasinski also has acted in several movies, such as License to Wed, Leatherheads and Shrek the Third. John Krasinki BackgroundThe actor known to the American tv watching public as "Jim", was born in Boston and raised in a predominantly Roman Catholic suburb of Boston. John Burke Krasinski gets his Polish name from his internist (doctor) father, Polish-American Ronald Krasinski. His mother is Irish. While at Brown University, Krasinski studied writing and wanted to become a playwright. His honors thesis was "Contents under Pressure". John also studied at the National Theater Institute, the Royal Shakespeare Company (in England) and the Actors Center (in New York City). After graduation, Krasinski moved to New York City, appeared in some off-Broadway productions and worked as a waiter. In the same time period, John Krasinski also appeared in a few commercials and worked as a script intern on Late Night With Conan O'Brien. John Krasinski and B.J. NovakKrasinski went to the same high school as B.J. Novak, who plays Ryan Howard (aka "the Temp") on The Office. In fact, the two were on the same Little League baseball team together. When The Office Executive Producer Greg Daniels (writer on SNL, The Simpsons, Seinfeld; co-creator King of the Hill) took over the adaptation of The Office for an American audience, the first actor he hired was comedian B.J. Novak, who was best known in the business at the time for being one of Ashton Kutcher's accomplices on Punk'd. Coincidentally, John Krasinski soon was hired to be the leading man on The Office, though Krasinski and Novak maintain their big break on the same show was more coincidence than design. B.J. Novak has gone on to become a writer and co-executive producer on The Office, occasionally acting in bit part on Hollywood films like Inglourious Basterds and Knocked Up. Portrayal of Jim Halpert on The OfficeJim Halpert is invariably described as an "everyman" type: a talented yet disaffected salesman in paper company based in Scranton. Jim's romance with the office secretary, Pam Beasley, has been a major storyline running throughout every year of The Office. Jim's dislike of the co-worker sitting at the next desk, Dwight Shrute, is a major source of comedy on the show. Much of the first two years saw Dwight in a supervisory position above Jim Halpert and Jim's chafing at the constraints of the job and his two off-the-wall supervisors, Michael and Dwight. Most Jim Halpert comedy comes from his reaction to the eccentricities of the co-workers around him, which makes Jim the grounding character for The Office. Viewers are encouraged to see the world through Jim's perspective, as one of them. Often, Jim will include the audience in his comical attempts to get small revenges against Dwight, through the use of clever pranks that play on Dwight's bizarre characteristics, usually either Dwight's ambition or paranoia. In later seasons of The Office, Jim Halpert has grown dissatisfied with life in Scranton (both the job and Pam's engagement) and moved to another office. In the twists and turns of the Dunder-Mifflin Paper Company, Jim has eventually been promoted ahead of Dwight and is currently a co-manager of the local office, along with longtime boss, Michael Scott. His relationship with Pam has similarly developed, so that much of Jim's earlier dissatisfaction (or reasons for dissatisfaction) have largely disappeared. With the constantly changing office hierarchy and relationships of sitcoms, there's no telling what will happen if The Office continues for many more seasons. One can expect to see the power-sharing between Jim and Michael to end sometime by season's end. How long the producers and writers of The Office can keep the marriage of Jim and Pam fresh is anybody's guess. Whatever the case, The Office has made John Krasinski a household name and a well-loved actor. If he plays his cards right, John Krasinski can become a successful actor in the romantic comedy sphere of Hollywood filmmaking. His forays into big screen acting have been spotty so far, but that can change with one big hit. Given the fact that John Krasinski wanted to be a writer and director as much as an actor, he might take his career in the direction of the latter. Already, John Krasinki has written, directed and produced a movie named Brief Interviews With Hideous Men. John Krasinski Film Credits
