The Office Spoilers

With the impending departure of Steve Carrell from The Office, the search for The Office spoilers has become frantic. People want to know the latest rumors and confirmations involving a possible fill-in for the office boss, Michael Scott. That's a huge hole to fill in a lot of people's favorite tv show these past few years.

Michael Scott Meets David Brent

Apparently, Ricky Gervais, who played David Brent on the original (British) version of The Office, is going to make an appearance in the American version of The Office. Seven years in the making, we get to see what happens when the two bosses finally meet face-to-face.

The scene with Ricky Gervais isn't going to be much, but watch the January 27th episode of The Office to see this once a series event.

Michael Scott's Threat Level Midnight

For those who've been watching The Office since Season 2, you'll get to see another glimpse of Michael Scott's dream project, Threat Level Midnight, starring Michael Scarn, on the February 17 episode. For those not aware, Threat Level Midnight was the script Michael was working on, which other Dunder Mifflin employees found in his desk drawers one day. Michael Scott obviously wrote the part of secret agent Michael Scarn for himself.

Little did we know that Michael has been working weekends to get this project finished for the past several years. He also recruited office workers to help complete the movie. Here is the tentative cast list.

  • Dwight - Robot Butler "Samuel"
  • Jim - "Goldenface", Michael Scarn's Arch-Nemesis
  • Jan - Jasmine, the femme fatale
  • Pam - Hostage #1
  • Darryl - The President

That should be a great episode. I love when Michael Scarn makes an appearance. (Anyone remember Scarn's appearance in Michael's acting class?)

Michael Scott's Replacement

Of course, what everyone wants to know is who will replace Michael Scott. That's the biggest secret in television for the spring of 2011. Michael is going to leave the show a few episodes before this season's finale, so the storyline is going to revolve around finding a replacement this season.

There has been a lot of speculation so far, but no one has the answer. People have suggested actors ranging from Will Farrell to Harvey Keitel. Characters like Darrell, Dwight Schrute, Creed Bratton, Stanley, and even Todd Packer have been proposed. There have even been discussions of having the boss entirely offscreen, with only a voice actor playing the role. All of that sounds like fan buzz and bluster to keep the fandom mystified and guessing, but expect a revelation before the show airs. This is too big of a tv secret to stay hidden until next season.

Jenna Fischer hints that the answer to the Michael question may not be one person, but a number of changes to the show. I'm certain that speculation is just about the run-up to the finale, when the producers will be exploring several options and storylines, perhaps even to gauge fan interest. Replacing Michael Scott is going to be an enormous task, and if the chemistry is all wrong, the show is going to fold in one more season.

Michael Scott Leaves Before Sweeps

It's surprising in a way that Steve Carrell is going to leave The Office before the spring sweeps, since that's when the network wants the audience at its largest. But I guess they assume the curiosity of viewers about the replacement is going to draw in a bigger audience. Interest should be huge in the final episodes of Season 7.
